This week in the HLS summer reading program, we are exploring twisted tales! Twisted tales are based on a story that we all know, like “Cinderella,” but something is twisted, or changed, that makes the story different than we first thought.
Read Trust Me, Jack’s Beanstalk Stinks! The Story of Jack and the Beanstalk as Told by the Giant by Eric Braun.
Here is our fourth Cinderella story. This one is about chickens. The pictures in this book are beautiful—so many details.
Read Cinders: A Chicken Cinderella by Jan Brett.
For our STEAM project this week, we are going to weave. When I write, I think about weaving the words together to make a story. So it seemed just perfect to do some actual weaving this week.
If you were in my classroom, we had some foam looms that we used to make things very similar to these. But you might not have these looms at your house. So I wanted to give you a couple of different ways to make your own loom at home. Here are a couple of videos that you can watch to give you directions.
Toilet Tube Loom
Here are the looms we made out of cardboard and toilet tubes and the foam one I have at school.
