Imagine Your Story: Twisted Tales! July 27

This week in the HLS summer reading program, we are going to be looking at stories I call twisted tales. They are based on a story that we all know, but something is twisted, or changed that makes the story different than we first thought. The book we are going to read today is one of my very favorites. It might be the first of these tales that I had ever read.

Story Time!

Read The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs by Jon Scieszka. This is one of my very favorite books.

Writing Time!

My third and fourth graders read The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs. After reading this story, we each wrote our own twisted tale of the Three Little Pigs. It was so much fun listening to all of the different stories that we came up with.

So I thought we would try that again this summer. But instead of doing a version of the Three Little Pigs, I want us to write a TWISTED Cinderella story this week. Each day I will have a second story posted. This story will be under the Writing Time! heading. All of these stories will be Cinderella stories.

Here is our first TWISTED Cinderella story.

Read Seriously, Cinderella is SO Annoying! The Story of Cinderella as Told by the Wicked Stepmother by Trisha Speed Shaskan.

Now, I want you to think about how you want to tell your own Cinderella story. What are you going to change in the story to make your own TWISTED tale? I have my own ideas. We will have to see how they turn out by the end of the week.

Share your stories with us! Post a photo in the comments below or share them on social media with the hashtag #HLSSummerReading.
