Celebrating HLS’s Sixth Grade Graduates in 2020!

hls sixth grade graduates 2020

We can’t gather together for a graduation celebration for our 2020 sixth grade graduates, so we’ve put together this blog post to celebrate each of our sixth graders. Read on for a letter from Mrs. C, then get to know our sixth grade graduates!

A letter to each of the Hampton Lutheran sixth grade graduates:

Dear Porter, Wyatt, Lofton, Aydenn, and Sophie,

What a joy it has been to be a part of your lives for a little while. When I look at you and see how you have grown and changed, I am so aware of how God is working in each of your lives. I am so proud of what you have accomplished, and especially the independence you have shown this last quarter. You’ll always remember the end of your sixth grade year! I am excited to see what is in store for you as you enter junior high and beyond. Remember what you have learned at HLS, and continue to walk with Jesus. He most certainly will be walking with you every step of the way! Thank you for the privilege of joining the journey for a little while.

Love always, Mrs. C.

Bible verse

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” —John 3:16

Witness statement

John 3:16 has affected me my whole life. I first heard about it when I was about five or six, and ever since then I’ve been closer with God and have understood him much more. When I read this verse, it reminds me about Jesus dying on the cross, but dying for us. We should have been the ones on the cross, not Him. He grew up without one single sin. We grew up with more sins than we can count. God wants us to love Him with all our heart so that we can be with Him when the time comes. We can go to heaven and see our one true God of heaven and earth.

John 3:16 also tells me in my own way that God loves us more than anything in the world. He tells me that He will do anything for us, but also teach us lessons along the way on how to be a good you. How to be yourself in a good way but also to be yourself in your own way.

Bible verse

“The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” —Psalm 27:1

Witness statement

I love Psalm 27:1 because it tells me even in the dark places there is light that can be shone on anyone, and that’s why I don’t have to be afraid. This is a reminder that I can always turn to God, no matter what is going on in my life. This makes me feel protected and cared for by my Lord and Savior.

I am thankful for this journey of faith that I have been on since preschool at Hampton Lutheran School, and I will take it with me the rest of my life. I have learned how to care for others, the importance of prayer, and the importance of honesty and hard work. I have also learned when I am having troubles that I need to pray and when I have doubts always turn to the Lord. I am thankful for all of my teachers who put in all the hard work to help me grow. I will definitely miss Ms. Deb’s cooking!! 🙂

I am so glad I have my family to support me. I have one brother, Alex; one brother-in-law, Cole; three sisters, Brittany, Kiersten, and Lillian; and a sister-in-law, Kacey, who is expecting a baby boy soon. I’m excited I’m going to be an uncle! My parents, Shane and Theresa, are very supportive of me and everything I do.

I love to drive RC cars, play slamball on the trampoline, and play sports, like football and basketball. I also like to go to the farm with my dad and bake with my mom.

Bible verse

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart with all your soul and with all your mind.” —Matthew 22:37

Witness statement

In Matthew 22:37, Jesus is answering a Pharisee’s question of which is the greatest commandment, and Jesus says this as his answer. I like this verse because it tells me how to love God. This scripture verse is used several times in the Bible and is really inspiring. It tells me and shows me how to love God.

When things go wrong, we lose a job, don’t get a good test score, or a virus comes and starts affecting you and everyone around you even after you’ve prayed, it is easy to stop trusting God and easy to not turn to Him. But this verse reminds all of us how to love God. He wants us to love others, share His Word, and most of all be a light into this dark world. That is who I want to be.

What extracurricular activities or sports do you plan to do in junior high?

Scholar bowl and possibly other stuff

What is your favorite memory of HLS?

In fourth grade, we were headed to my brother’s scholar bowl and Mrs. Carnoali called my mom and asked if I’d participate with the fifth grade team. I had a lot of fun and felt like I helped the team by answering quite a few questions.

What’s your favorite class/art project you did at HLS?

My favorite class was third grade math. My favorite art project was second grade when we could make our own creations from molding clay.

What advice would you give to younger HLS students?

Don’t take life advice from a 12-year-old. Just kidding—remember to thank your teachers and other staff (especially Ms. Deb)!

What are your favorite activities to do in your free time?

Right now, I like hunting for old coins, metal detecting, learning about history, hunting turkeys, fishing, and spending time with my family.

Bible verse

“So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” —Colossians 2:6–7

Witness statement

Colossians 2:6–7 makes me think of all my years at HLS, from preschool to sixth grade. All the songs and verses we’ve learned have taught me so much. I’m really going to miss HLS next year, but we all have to move on sometime. I chose this verse because I can come back to it even when I start to lose faith. It can bring me back to God and his glory. When I used to stay at my grandma’s house, before bed we would say our prayers. Now every night my mom and I read What’s in the Bible for Teens, and it makes it feel like chapel at home. It helps me learn the works of God from a different angle.

Junior high is the next step in this journey called life. I’m not ready to leave HLS or my friends, but it is time to move on. I’m excited to make new friends, play sports, and student manage at HHS. I will miss almost everything from HLS, especially Miss Deb’s sloppy Joes.

My family consists of my parents, Haley who lives in Omaha, and my fabulous dog Natty. We love to take side-by-side rides, go to Husker football and volleyball games, jump on the trampoline, and take long walks. I love to build LEGO sets and paint rocks and canvases. Star Wars is my favorite movie series. I love the imagination and unique characters in the movies. My favorite quote from Star Wars is “No one’s ever really gone.” This reminds me there is a heaven, and heaven is for real!

My favorite memory is the night of the musical when we would all get ready for our last big performance together. It made me feel special that everyone came to watch us tell stories about Jesus.

What’s your favorite class/art project you did at HLS?

What advice would you give to younger HLS students?

Listen to your teachers, and ask them if they need any help around the classroom. It’s good to be helpful.

Bible verse

“Jesus wept.” —John 11:35

Witness statement

“Jesus wept” in John 11:35 is my favorite verse because it tells me that Jesus had feelings just like me. He had emotions, so he understands my prayers. Now I know that it is okay to cry and have sorrow and be sad because Jesus himself cried in fear, sorrow, disappointment, and anger. This also tells me that it does not hurt to cry. It will not take privileges or cause harm because Jesus did it as well.

Through Hampton Lutheran School, I have learned Bible stories and Bible verses. I will now know these verses my whole life. The stories have prepared me for some life challenges and have taught me to look at life differently. I now see life lessons everywhere and at places that I would never have been able to see if not for HLS. I have grown up with two different church families. In my church, our youth group leaders ask many questions that Hampton Lutheran has made clear. This makes it easy for me to participate in Sunday school and youth group.

  1. It was so good to read your witness statements. You all are wonderful examples of Christian love. I look back on the years I spent with you guys at HLS with fond memories. It is great to see how much you all have grown physically, intellectually and above all spiritually. May God bless you all as you go on from HLS. Stay close to the Lord.
