HLS Students’ Prayers for National Day of Prayer 2020

The students of Hampton Lutheran serve the community of Hampton as hosts of the area National Day of Prayer 2020. This year, although we cannot be together, we pray that we can still bless you with our prayers.

Here is part of the 2020 National Prayer for America:

Lord, we exist to give You glory. We exist because of Your glory, and in Your glory, as our Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer. We give you thanks and praise for every breath and moment You have given to us. We repent of our sin; for the shameful things we have done against You and for our silence when we did not speak up to proclaim Your Name, profess Your Word, or protect and practice Your will. We ask Your forgiveness. We pray that the knowledge of the glory of the Lord will spread across our nation and the entire earth as we seek Your Kingdom and righteousness; as we walk in obedience to You, and in humble unity, love one another … God, use us as we pray your promise, that “the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” In Jesus’ name, amen!

—Kathy Branzell, President, National Day of Prayer Task Force

With sincere hearts, the students of the fifth and sixth grade class at Hampton Lutheran ask you to come before God, asking His blessing, and asking that His will be done in our lives. And we pray that in everything, God’s glory be shown across the earth. Below are the texts of the prayers, which you can read with your family, as well as the students speaking their prayers.

Prayer for Business by Lofton F.

Dear Lord,

In this time of struggle we need to ask you to be with our economy and local business, especially small businesses and our local farmers and ranchers. Many people have worked very hard to start a business and due to the coronavirus, they can’t keep them going.

Please help this virus to go away so that businesses can reopen and they can rehire their former employees. Please be with our farmers as they work so hard to raise crops and livestock and are facing challenges. Please be with those who have lost their jobs due to the virus.

Help them to see that you will always make a way. As it says in Psalm 23:46: “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” In these verses you remind us that you are in control, and that we need to put our trust in you.

Please help us turn to you at this time and remind us to not be anxious about anything but in everything by prayer and supplication let our requests be known to God. Lord, please help us to do this, and in all things let your glory be shown across the earth. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Prayer for Schools and Churches by Sophia S.

We pray for schools and churches.

Let us pray. Dear Father in heaven, we pray for all of the schools and the students to love one another through You. We especially pray for Hampton Lutheran School. May it grow in Your name. Help us, as the children of God, to love one another because You first loved us, and help us remember that you are with us to the ends of the earth. We pray for teachers in schools everywhere, that they may teach their students to be faithful servants. May You help administrators and school leaders make wise decisions that will help benefit their schools.

We also pray for our churches, for the congregations, pastors, and leaders of their congregations; that pastors may teach your Word. We pray for churches everywhere, that you would bless them so they may thrive. We also pray that all the world can keep their faith even in this difficult time. We pray for all those affected by the pandemic and all of the first responders. We know that you, Lord, are in control and will guide and deliver us through this pandemic.

We thank you that we are all able to have a school to learn and a church to praise you. And above all, let us love one another. Amen.

Prayer for Our Military and Government by Aydenn S.

“Do not be afraid of them; the Lord you God himself will fight for you.” —Deuteronomy 3:22

Let us pray. Our beloved Lord, thank you for the brave men and women that risk their lives to keep us safe and away from harm. Thank you for the Navy, Air Force, Army, Marines, and Coast Guard. We confess that we have not always honored and respected them as we should. You are awesome because you have given us men and women to help us stay alive and safe. Keep them alive and willing to help us at any time we call them or need them. Keep them brave and strong and help them to look to you for guidance.

We all sin, but when we pray to God and ask for forgiveness, you will forgive all of our sins. Jesus died on the cross to forgive us, you did your job, and now we have to do ours by loving others and caring for them. You always love us so we have to do the same for other people. You said love your enemies as yourself.

You have provided the government to protect and care for us. Thank you for our leaders in the federal, state, and local governments. Guide our president, senators, and representatives to make decisions that glorify you. Help Governor Pete Ricketts and the Nebraska state legislators honor you in all things. Be with our local mayors and community leaders as they make choices for the people they serve. Help other communities to come together so that hurting people receive the help they need. Thank you that if people are not feeling loved by anyone, they can go to you in prayer and remember that you always love them and will always be with them.

And we pray that in everything, your glory be shown across the earth. Amen.

Prayer for Business by Izaiah R.

Dear Father in heaven,

1 Chronicles 29:17 says: “I know, my God, that you test the heart and are pleased with integrity. All these things I have given willingly and with honest intent. And now I have seen with joy how willingly your people who are here have given to you.”

I pray that the leaders of businesses can be honest in how they deal with their customers and how they treat their people. We ask for your forgiveness when we don’t always follow your ways and laws.

During this time of sickness, I pray that everyone is safe and does not worry. You are in control. Help people not to panic for those who have the virus. For the businesses, I pray that people can continue working like my dad. For other people I pray they can still work to support their families and their businesses. For the companies that make a lot of money, I pray they still make a lot of money, but use it wisely in a way that honors you. Lord, we exist to give You glory. We exist because of Your glory, and in Your glory, our Creator, Redeemer, and Guide.

“As the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” —Habakkuk 2:14

We ask Your forgiveness. And we pray that in everything, your Glory be shown across the earth. In Jesus’s name, amen.

Prayer for Our Families by Zari R.

Dear Father in Heaven,

Thank you for making my family and letting me spend more time with my family. Thank you for letting me live with my mom. She takes real good care of me. Since I am with my family a lot more, I get a lot more frustrated but we figure things out.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.” —1 Corinthians 13: 4–7

I would also like to pray for the parents to love their children and the children to obey and love their parents. I pray for unity in each family; for forgiveness and kindness. I want to pray and help all the grandparents so that they can do well and support their family. If there are families who have hurt each other, help bring them back together, and help families teach each other about Jesus.

Thank you for making all the flowers, bushes, trees, and insects because if there were none of those things then the other animals wouldn’t get food. And without trees, no oxygen, and bushes help make homes for animals, a little bit of shade too.

“If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand.” —Mark 3:25

I really want to pray for all the people who have COVID-19 and their families because I know it is really hard, especially if they lose a loved one. When I lost my uncle, it really hurt so I would really want to pray for them. I know that you are with them every day even in their hardest time. I would like to pray for the people in the family who have hurt ones or even some kind of disease because that can be hard on them. A lot of people are well unless they are doctors or they still have to work. Thank you for being with each and every one of us. I would like to pray for families to comfort each other, that everything will be okay. I love you so much.

“Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” —Proverbs 22:6

And we pray that in everything, your glory be shown across the earth. Amen.

Prayer About the Media We Consume by Porter D. and Wyatt D.

Let us pray. Dear God, please help us with all of our needs and make sure we know that your will be done in our hearts and around the world. Help us all with everything, which includes the internet, like Google, Safari, Bing, and others. Help us to look up things necessary to you and protect our eyes from things that are unnecessary, and help guide us to use the internet for good information. Philippians 4:8 says: “Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think on these things.”

Please help us to not talk to strangers on our phones and other electronic devices, and use it to be positive and build each other up. Help us not to post anything mean or inappropriate. Another thing to talk about is the online bullying. Children who use video games or other online platforms need to be careful of who they talk to because if the children give too much information to the wrong person, they could be in trouble. Bullying is a big thing nowadays. Children get bullied every day, and then kids have trouble finding new friends because they are scared of getting bullied again.

1 Thessalonians 2:12 says: “Encouraging, comforting, and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.”

Dear Lord, please also help us with the music, movies, and so on. May they be God pleasing, and keep us from the bad, inappropriate music and the bad movies that are not God pleasing.

And we pray that in everything, your glory be shown across the earth. Amen.

Prayer for Our Military by Elli J.

First of all, I would like to thank you for listening to my prayer. My prayer is about the people who are serving in the military, the people who will be serving, and people who risk their lives just so we can be free. It must be scary having to go out there and know that there is a good chance that you will get hurt or even killed. I want to have a special prayer for our military. I made a prayer for them. So if you can fold your hands and bow your heads and pray with me.

Dear Father, we would like you to help the men and women who serve in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard as many of them are far from home, and they cannot connect with their family very easily.

At this time of sickness, protect each military member and their family from COVID-19. It is hard for them to go out there and fight when their family has to fight COVID-19 at home. Protect all of the families left behind.

Protect the military when enemies are close. Give them strength to keep going and wise leaders to make good decisions for our country.

2 Chronicles 32:6 says: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged.” We know that God is in control. Help the people in the military to have courage and depend on God. Help them when times get hard to believe in God and keep going. Give them confidence to keep fighting for our country.

Psalm 46 says: “God is our refuge and strength; an ever present help in trouble so we shall not fear.”

And we pray that in everything, your glory be shown across the earth. Amen. Can you please keep them in your prayers?
