What We’re Reading: The Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly and More!

What We’re Reading is a blog series where we talk about the books Hampton Lutheran School teachers are reading out loud in their classrooms. Here’s what Miss Pope has been reading to her third and fourth grade class in the last month.

In first and second grade, we are reading from our Let’s Read About . . . collection this month because we are learning about Presidents Day and Black History Month. We have read about many people from history, including Rosa Parks, Ruby Bridges, Martin Luther King Jr., Harriet Tubman, George Washington, and Abraham Lincoln.

The students love learning about these real-life events that have happened in the past. I have a couple students who can’t get enough of it! I often find them checking out books from the library or asking me for more books to get more information or details on historical figures we’ve read about in class. The hardest part is trying to find first and second grade level approved books on these topics. As a teacher, it’s fun to watch students want to learn more and have tons of questions about the topics we are teaching.
